2020 Venues

We've had 14 venues express interest in participating in the 2020 Flower Festival so far ..... applications close on 15th November so there's still time for a few more to sign up. Places are limited though, with 18 being the maximum number we can accommodate, so don't leave it too late!

Flower Workshops

Our 2019 flower workshops were well supported and much enjoyed by all who took part earlier this year and plans are well in hand for more workshops next year.

There will be an afternoon and an evening session to be held at St Johns with a provisional date of Tuesday 24th March 2020. Make a note in your diaries if you'd like to join us for an informative demonstration plus a chance to ask questions and to have a go yourselves. More details to follow!

Our 2020 Theme

We're exploring links with UNESCO Biosphere Isle of Man and our theme for the 2020 Festival will be taken from their promotional literature: 'A Special Place for People and Nature'. Invitations are going out this week to over 70 potential 2020 participant venues and, hopefully, we'll soon have a good idea which parts of the Island our enthusiastic visitors will be enjoying next summer.

Well done to our 2019 venue, Christ Church Laxey!

In response to the severe flooding suffered by residents of Glen Road in the village, Christ Church opened its doors today for use as a Rest and Emergency Centre run by the Civil Defence. Many people put aside their normal day duties and jobs to offer warmth, company and support for those in need.

Exciting times ahead for Christ Church Laxey....

Summer 2018 saw the Parish in danger of amalgamation as it was unable to pay its way.....from those times of despair, with individuals and the community working together, have come shafts of light for sustainability of the building for the good of visitors, residents and worshippers.

A new non profit making charity Visit Laxey Valley (VLV) has been set up to show off the beauty of our area using the slogan ‘The valley that lead the world’. A Heritage Trail has been devised using Christ Church as the hub and Welcome Centre. On the wall of the nave there will be a huge digital signage display video introducing visitors to what made Laxey so special in the 19th century and what continues to make it so wonderful today. Characters in the costume of the day will be spotted around the village.

For the Flower Festival all the businesses in the village have been asked to contribute...as usual some have been very generous. Coming by tram is by far the easiest. Bus Vannin have agreed that a shuttle bus will run round the village stopping at Christ Church and covering 15 hop-on hop-off stops.

Agneash Chapel is very much part of the Heritage Trail and we at Christ Church hope we may by then have ‘worked together’ to find a means of transport for those not in their own cars to get ‘up the hill’.

We hope you will enjoy visiting all the venues of the Flower Festival.   Don’t miss Christ Church Laxey and remember we will by then be the Welcome Centre for the Laxey Heritage Trail open 10-4 each day.
